Recycling Grants To Help Local Businesses Increase Efficiency and Competitiveness
US Department of Commerce
August 2006
Community Electronics Technology Interface (CETI), a newly formed not-for-profit organization located in Carbondale, has been awarded a $32,571 grant to establish an electronics recycling collection program. While initially focusing on taking over the operations of an established collection effort in Jackson County, this group will also work to expand electronic discards recycling opportunities for people and businesses in the 17 Illinois counties south of Interstate 64. Grant funds will be used to purchase a forklift, pallet jacks, scale, strapping equipment, tools, and to pay for costs associated with project-related promotion and education efforts. This project is anticipated to annually divert an additional 72.4 tons of electronic discards for recycling, nearly doubling the volume currently being diverted. It is also expected to lead to the creation of the equivalent of one and a half full-time jobs. Contact Chan Heng San for more information at 618/529-4037.
